From to at The Braes of Glenlivet, Cairngorms National Park
As the seasons change from winter to spring early birds arrive on high ground for the nesting season. But the conditions in the hills remain to be seen. It could be snowing. Or the sun might be shining. Maybe it will do both!
Things really start to happen in March.
By this time of year both Brown Hare and Mountain Hare have decided that it is definitely spring. Boxing is the preferred activity of the month.
Visiting birds may well be wondering whose idea it was to come up here so early. If you are a bird with a long beak like a Curlew it helps for feeding through the snow. Lapwing and Redshank on the other hand only have relatively short beaks. They have to resort to areas where sheep have broken through the snow cover to find their food.
