Crested Tit and Crossbill

Abernethy is the largest remnant of Caledonian Pine Forest in the UK.

The Loch Mallachie - Loch Garten trail gives an excellent opportunity for spotting Crested Tit, both Parrot and Scottish Crossbill as well as many other woodland birds. In summer these include Pinewood species such as Redstart and Tree Pipit with tree nesting Swifts a speciality.
